Facebook, as we all know, is a very popular social networking site found by Mark Zucherberg. Almost every person in the world has Facebook accounts. According to CheckFacebook.com, there are already 608,709,140 Facebook users as of February 12, 2011. The most number of users are in the United States with 148,867,700 total users. The Philippines is 5th on the list with 22,316,340 total users. But why do all of these 608,709,140 Facebook users have Facebook anyway?
Because…
(a) they want to use it to connect with other people around the world – whether their purpose is to get an online partner, online customers, or to deceive easy targets online;
(b) they want to keep in touch with old friends, classmates, relatives, and acquaintances – whether their purpose is to just talk about the old times; or what’s new; or their boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands, wives, flings, bosses; or jobs, how much money they have, what car they drive, how big their house is, and how grand and glam their party is;
(c) it’s “in” and others have Facebook so they think they MUST also have an account even though they don’t know why they should and how it’s used anyway;
(d) they want to spy on their so-called friends, family, relative, cheating partners, and work rivals;
(e) they want to get updates about what their friend’s been doing, where their old classmate’s going, and their ex’s relationship status;
(f) they want to flaunt their new gadgets – whether they bought them themselves or they were given by their parents or older siblings or their rich partners;
or
(g) they just want to have an outlet of what they think, how they feel, and what they’ve learned recently.
Whatever your reason is, it doesn’t really matter. Just enjoy Facebook. It should never be a reason for broken relationships (any kind of relationships) and for self-centered tactics to deceive people and benefit from their naivety.
For me, Facebook is an outlet - mostly. (It doesn’t mean I don’t have those reasons above, because I honestly do have a few of ‘em). How about you? Why do you have Facebook?
