The Purpose Driven Life: Day 18

DAY 18
THINKING ABOUT MY PURPOSE

Point to Ponder: I need others in my life.

Verse to Remember: “Share each other’s troubles and problems, and in this way obey the law of Christ.” -Galatians 6:2

Question to Consider: What one step can I take today to connect with another believer at a more genuine, heart-to-heart level?

For the time being, the only believer I know who I can connect with at a deeper and more genuine heart-to-heart level is my friend/colleague Jannah. I haven’t been given the chance yet, but I know at the right time, we’ll be able to do so.

I believe that it’s her because I can see how strong her faith and her devotion to God is. Her thoughts and her words are filled with God’s teachings. She, without any hesitations, shares her knowledge in God’s Word. Through many different ways, I was moved by her motivation and her focus on God.

Maybe, someday soon, we’ll have a chance to talk about how God has touched and changed our lives and how we can flourish and fulfill our purposes. And when that time comes, I’m pretty sure, I’ll feel more blessed to know that God has sent me a friend who I can go through this journey with.

The Purpose Driven Life: Day 17

DAY 17
THINKING ABOUT MY PURPOSE

Point to Ponder: I am called to belong, not just believe.

Verse to Remember: ”In Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” -Romans 12:5

Question to Consider: Does my level of involvement in my local church demonstrate that I love and am committed to God’s family?

I haven’t been in a church for years now and I can feel how different it is to be living without it.

I left my mom’s hometown, Sta. Cruz, Laguna, where my church was located, way back 2005. That was when I started working. Since then, I had attended church services off and on due to my shifting schedule and different restday schedules.

Now that I am staying in my hometown, which is Cabuyao, Laguna — 2 hours away from Sta. Cruz — I don’t have a church to go to. Though I really want to go to one, I’m quite hesitant because I am not acquainted to any yet. But my goal now is to find a church where I can be involved in, make fellowship with, and worship God publicly.

I can never be fruitful by myself. I don’t want to be severed from Christ’s body. I don’t want to shrivel and die. What I want is to grow with the other members of Christ’s body and live according to God’s will. I want to fulfill my purpose because just like every part of our body, we have our own functions. We may be a big part or a small part of His body, what’s important is, we have been chosen to perform tasks that He has entrusted to us.

“Heavenly Father, I can never achieve anything alone. I don’t want to live without You and I can never live without You. For without You, I will not grow. I will just shrivel and die. But it doesn’t mean it’s just only me and You. It requires the help from the church. The church, which is filled with Your glory, can help me be nourished and fruitful. Thank You Father because I know You will find a church I can also belong to. Praise You God! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

The Purpose Driven Life: Day 16

DAY 16
THINKING ABOUT MY PURPOSE

Point to Ponder: Life is all about love.

Verse to Remember: “The entire law is summed up in a single command: Love Your Neighbor as yourself.” -Galatians 5:14

Question to Ponder: Honestly, are relationships my first priority? How can I ensure that they are?

I have always valued my relationship with my family and my friends highly. I always think about their feelings and opinions. If I hurt others, I would feel so guilty for hurting them. But I am not perfect, although I love them, there would always be a time when my imperfections upset them.

Despite my busy working schedule, I make sure that I give enough time for my children. Even a short conversation with my mother makes me happy.

My belief in the Golden Rule and in God’s reminder to love our neighbors is what makes me watch my actions towards people. However, there are moments in my life that I get back on those who treat me wrong.

God isn’t like that to me so I will try to do the same.

Father, help me to be nice to others and to make my relationships my first priority. That despite my busy schedule, I hope I can always find time to connect with my sons, my mother, my brother, all the other members of our family, as well as my friends and colleagues. I pray that you help others to do the same. Thank you, Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Rika’s ABCs – Reposted After 1 Year

Exactly one year ago, I wrote my very first WordPress post. It was called “Rika’s ABC”, giving you some information about me using the 26 letters of the alphabet.

Time surely flies fast. I can’t believe it’s been a year already!

Here… Read on! ;)

A – Alagon. My mother’s maiden name. It also stands for Audrey – my mom’s name.

B – Books. I love books – the look, the feel, the smell – they make me feel good. No, I’m not a bookworm. But reading is one good hobby I enjoy doing. I even thought of becoming a writer or an author, I just need to learn how to express my thoughts and ideas better.

C – Christian-Catholic. I was born a Catholic but converted to Christianism in my teens. Being a Christian taught me more lessons than being a Catholic. (No offense to all Catholics out there.)

D – Dark Chocolate. I am so into chocolates and dark choco is my favorite. I didn’t really like it when I was young (which is normal because kids like it sweeter.) I enjoy chocolates with almonds, hazelnuts, or any kinds of nuts.

E – Enrico. My father’s name. He was called Eric, Erica, and Ericbajns by his comrades. I remember liking everything that he thought was interesting.

F – Folk dance. I was an active student when I was in my elementary. My teachers would frequently choose me (along with my other classmates) to dance “Rosas Pandan”, “Igorot dance”, and others.

G – Gadgets. I just love gadgets. These electronic devices just amaze me every single time. Technology always surprises us with new ones – touch screen phones/monitors/music players, TV phones, phones with Microsoft Office, mobile Internet, camera phone with a high resolution, I can’t name all the others, it’s endless!

H – Home Alone. I saw my first Home Alone movie when I was, if I’m not mistaken, 6 years old. I remember my father took us to the cinema to watch this movie but it was so crowded that we had to watch it standing. And that was my birthday! Lucky, eh?!

I – iPod. I have a black 8G iPod Nano that I use to listen to music wherever I go or whatever I do. Music is a part of my “Rikaness”. Without music, Rika isn’t whole.

J – Journals. When I was younger, I tried to make my own journal. But because I was lazy and was not imaginative enough, I had nothing to write about. But now I realize that all my thoughts should be written down.

K – Kite. I have never, EVER, flown a kite, well, at least, successfully. I tried during our P.E in my grade school but it didn’t go up in the air. :( I never tried since then.

L – Laptop. My first laptop is the one I’m using right now – an Acer E-Machines D725. It’s cheaper than all the other famous branded laptops but it’s got good specs anyway. It has 2G RAM, 320G Hard Disk, 8x DVD drive and 5-in-1 card reader. It’s 6 months old and not fully-paid yet. (teehee~)

M – May Gelynn Carena. My best friend since I knew the world. She is the only person I know who accepts me for who I am and who understands all my misdemeanor.

N – Notebook. Something I MUST always have in my bag when I go out.

O – Okra. I’m quite a fussy eater. If there is a list of my “I-will-never-try-this-veggie-ever”, this will be at the top of my list.

P – PlayStation Portable and Pens. This is one of those gadgets I would like to have. I am also a child at heart and I enjoy playing games! I love pens, too! Color pens, sign pens, technical pens, ballpoint pens, gel pens, any pens (which includes PENcils..)

Q – Quez-O. The brand of cheese my mom used to buy when we were kids. I really hated cheese that time. Now I love it!

R – Roller Blades (Also called “inline skates”). My classmates used to bring their own pairs of Roller Blades at school. I tried using a pair but I didn’t manage to keep my balance. I have never worn any ever since.

S – Slippers and Sneakers. It’s more comfortable for me to go out in my rubber slippers or my sneakers than any other kind of shoes. So whether I’m wearing jeans or short pants, I just put my slippers on.

T – Ticklish. I am an extremely ticklish person so just a gentle touch on my skin or a hard poke on most parts of my body make me shiver.

U – Uzumaki Naruto. My favorite action/adventure Japanese animation. I didn’t like it when I first saw it on TV. I used to think it was a bit silly. But the Shippuuden episodes caught my eye and I started being fond of it since then.

V – Voter’s ID. My photo on it is the “most beautiful” picture I have! NOT! Sorry, but I ain’t showing it to you. Uh-uh-uh!

W – Watch. A must-have. I’ve got no watch now but I’m really looking forward to having it already.

X – X-ray. I have an X-ray film of my leg due to the traffic accident I got into way back 2005. It was like only a  few weeks after getting hired in my first job and I got into this accident! Good thing there was no broken bone! Good heavens!

Y – Yearbook. I wasn’t in my High School Yearbook because my school refused to include me. Reason? They overreacted.

Z – Zuma. A character I used to be scared of when I was a little girl. He still creeps me out until now though.

Finally It’s Friday!!!

It’s Friday once again and time surely flies fast. We didn’t have work on Monday because it was holiday in Korea. So Monday sickness became Tuesday sickness. Why is that every first day of work we feel so tired and lazy when our batteries have recharged over the weekend?!

The whole week was not very amusing for me. It wasn’t even so-so. It had been a really sad, annoying, and distressing week for me. Thanks to a new friend I made in Marien, to my Gerpren May who always makes my day, my kids who always remind me that I deserve to stay alive (especially Titus, my older son, who gave me a heartfelt message written in a piece of paper, concealed in his self-made envelope), to the Starlight who always helps me see through the dark, and to God who has never left my side and gave me these wonderful people — including my family — to keep me going.

Wednesday wasn’t really that bad, but I just spent the whole day passively. However, it was better than Thursday because Thursday really sucked. I felt so light-headed, sleepy, heavy, I didn’t know why. I guess what’s in our hearts is reflected in our face and body.

So the whole week wasn’t really good but, God is so good, He didn’t make it a sweep. Somehow, several good things happened. And now, it’s Friday again! Though home doesn’t feel like home these days, I am happy I’ll have my 2-day vacation after a week of handful of shit.

God bless us all this weekend. Hope the blessing in disguise will uncover its mask already and just let us all savor the happiness it brings.
