30-Day Song Challenge: DAY 9

Hello everyone! This is my 9th post for the challenge and I’m feeling so much better now than this morning. If you want to know what happened, read my previous post. :)

Okay so, for the 9th day, I’m going to post about a song that I can dance to. Hmmh.. I was thinking… Does it mean it’s a song that I know the steps or choreography that I can dance to it, or does it mean it’s a song that I just feel like dancing when I hear it? If it’s the former, no I don’t have. But if it’s the latter, yeah that’s possible and I’ve got quite a lot.

I used to dance when I was in elementary and high school. My classmates and I used to perform in school programs. We also danced during our P.E. class. But as I was growing older, there was no need for me to dance and I wasn’t really that good. I’m not a BFAB. ;)

During those years, we danced modern pop/dance, folk dance and even Hawaiian. But now I can’t pull or bust a move, well maybe unless I know the steps. ;)

Anyway, I’ll just take today’s post as something that I feel like dancing when I listen to it. Like what I mentioned above, there are quite a lot. But I’ll be posting this particular song because of the infamous Step Up 3D.

Okay, here we go!

Strikers Strike Again and I Hate Them!

This morning, I was really angered by the selfish drivers on strike in Laguna. I had a good start — feeling so pleasant, happy, and fresh. I took a jeepney going to Balibago Complex, like what I usually do, but the jeepney we were on was barred from passing through Brgy. Dita. The strikers were pecking our driver about how tired they were and that our driver was not cooperating. I asked them to please let us pass but they were so mayabang.

Manong Striker #1:: Oy! Baba! Baba! Pababain niyo na yan! Kanina pa kami dito! Pagod na pagod na kami dito mga wala kayong pakisama!
Driver:: Wala po tayong magagawa, pasensya na po. Hinaharang po talaga dito.
Me:: (to the strikers) Kuya, huwag naman ho. Nadadamay naman ho kasi yung ibang tao.
Manong Striker #2:: (holding a long wooden rod) Ah hinde, hinde! Baba!

Grudgingly, I got off the jeepney giving them what my Gerpren May and I call the “sinister look,” talking angrily and loudly about how selfish of them to think only of themselves when a lot of other people take the consequence of their actions. A man was walking with what I seemed like a mocking expression, saying “Pasensiya na! Pasensiya na!”

So I answered him, “Pasensiya na…! Eh andaming nadadamay sa mga kalokohan niyo! Kung gusto niyong magstrike, kayo na lang! Bakit idadamay yung iba eh nagtatrabaho sila! Kaunting kibot, welga!”

He answered back, “Bakit ka sa’kin nagrereklamo? Dun ka magreklamo sa baranggay!”

“Mga tarantado kayo! Mga pu#$&*@#a niyo! Gago!Eh antitigas nga ng mukha niyo walang magawa sa inyo!”

Leaving with no choice, I walked from there to Maja Subdivision where I took a tricycle which cost  me P15 for the ride. I was trembling and shaking with anger. If I only had the strength of a mutant or a Greek God, I would collect all those strikers and throw them out into the ocean! Doon sila magwelga! >/

Dear Jeepney Drivers and Operators,

From your pasahero, Rix.

Project Knowledge

I was reading Saab Magalona’s blog this morning and I saw her post about Project Knowledge. Education is one of the most essential things a person must have. But it is also one of those things that are not given to everyone. So with this project, even those who live far away will be given a chance to get better education. I just want to share this awesome project to all of you guys and maybe we can help make this project work!

Click this picture to go to their Facebook page.

Project Knowledge is a group of 10 business students from UP Diliman and for our CWTS project this sem, we decided to raise funds for our chosen beneficiary, the Knowledge Channel (creator of educational shows like Sineswkela, Mathinik, Hiraya Manawari etc.)

One of our fund-raising projects is a Facebook Like page or campaign, in which Aquabest will donate P5.00 for every like our page will be generating. So far we have already accumulated P11, 310 (as of 8:26 PM August 9) and our target number is 10,000 likes or P50,000.

The funds that we will be raising will be used by Knowledge Channel to provide free educational TV (ETV) facilities and programs to public schools, especially those in the remote areas. They are also trying to reach out as far as they can through volunteer mobile teachers and the use of E-pads and I-pads in teaching.

Go and like their page to help get the whole country educated! Click on the picture NOW.

30-Day Song Challenge: DAY 8

Alright. So here’s my 8th post for the 30-Day Song Challenge. It says I have to post a song that I know all the words to. There are quite a lot of songs that I know word for word, but this is the first to pop up in my head.

Cranberries is one of my favorite bands and their songs are tremendous! Zombie, Ode To My Family and Dreams are just few of their compositions that made a mark to the music industry and to the hearts of many.

Several months ago, I watched the movie Click. In that movie, he goes back to the time when he first met his wife. (His wife asked him what song was playing then and he couldn’t remember it so he used his universal remote control to go back in time.) The scene is so romantic, although the message of the song isn’t really romantic at all.

I kinda connected to the song before because of a certain situation I was in and I was like, confused, about what was going on. So I frequently listened to it, checked the lyrics on the Internet and eventually remembered the lyrics word for word.

Okay, here it is.

Day 8: A Song That You Know All The Words To — Linger (Cranberries)

“Oh, I thought the world of you
I thought nothing could go wrong
But I was wrong, I was wrong

If you, if you could get by
Trying not to lie
Things wouldn’t be so confused
And I wouldn’t feel so used
But you always really knew
I just wanna be with you

And I’m in so deep, you know I’m such a fool for you
You got me wrapped around your finger
Do you have to let it linger
Do you have to, do you have to
Do you have to let it linger”

Weekend Flicks 4: 08.27-28.11

Another weekend has passed… Another list of weekend flicks. We watched 2 animated movies, 2 hero movies, 1 dramatic movie taken from a novel, 1 episode of American TV series, and 1 action thriller.

We watched Over The Hedge as requested by Titus, my older son. Then to make Tim dance, we watched Alvin and The Chipmunks 2. Then we watched Iron Man because I did not know the story and I was told it was essential to know the members of the Avengers first before watching their upcoming movie.

We were kinda busy on Sunday so we started playing Iron Man 2 in the afternoon, followed by Glee Season 2 Episode 1 “Audition” (just to see Sunshine Corazon again) and Taken in the evening.

We also watched The Time Traveler’s Wife but I already forgot which day we saw it. :P

Taken is epic. I could feel his anger in his every punch, every kick, every hit. Sorry for the bad guys, they picked on the wrong guy. haha!

It shows us how important our families are, whether related by blood or not. Selfish actions can break others' trust. So before you make a decision, before you make a move, make sure no one, not one, will get hurt and suffer from it.

Families are families. They're with you in good times and bad. You meet new people eventually. It's up to you if you stick to your new acquaintances believing they really DO accept you or if you remain loyal to your family who has been there all the way through.

The Time Traveler's Wife is a story that will confuse you, sadden you, amaze you, and keep you thinking even after the movie. We should always value our time and live our lives right as long as we still have time.

I'll just make it simple. Jesus said, "Those who use the sword are destroyed by it."

Shows how friendship may be broken if one was blinded by power. And how losers remain losers if they don't better themselves.

Teamwork isn't about doing well individually. It's more on doing well as a team.. As a group.. Rachel Berry has a problem with it when she meets Sunshine Corazon.

Obey your parents. They know more about life than we do. Disobedience and selfishness may result to unpleasant things -- things you would never think of.

Watch the trailers!

Baligtad!

I left home kinda late this morning. As usual, I walked past three blocks to reach the main road. I waited for a jeepney going to Balibago Complex where I would take another jeepney going to Alabang. I sat on the passenger’s seat beside an old woman. She got off at the Shell gasoline station on the expressway so I had the passenger seat all on my own. As soon as I arrived in Alabang, I took another jeepney going to Zapote then I got off in front of Alabang Medical Center. I crossed the street and walked for about five minutes. Finally, I arrived at the office and started working.

Teacher Kathleen and I had been talking for several minutes (we even had coffee and bread) when Teacher Jem arrived.

Teacher Jem:: Teacher, Rika… Parang iba yang damit mo? Parang may mali…
Me:: (wondering) Iba? Paanong iba?

Then I looked at the shirt I was wearing and smiled…

…then laughed.

I just found out that I travelled almost an hour and a half from Laguna to Alabang and talked to Teacher Kathleen for several minutes with my shirt worn inside out!!!

WTH?!

Hahaha!

How about you? Did you ever have any experience such as this? Have you ever left home with your shirt inside out? Share!

30-Day Song Challenge: DAY 7

Hey there! How was your weekend? Did you go out with your friends? Did you go to the mall and scan the whole building like a mall rat? Did you have a date at a restaurant or a park? Or did you just stay at home — doing some chores and watching movies — like me? However you may have spent your weekend, I hope you had a fantastic one. Coz no matter how simply I spent it, I feel fantastic.

Last Friday, I already posted Days 5 and 6 because, yeah, I don’t go online on weekends — like what I said. :P So today is the 7th day of this challenge. And today’s gonna be about a song that reminds me of a certain event.

Now I’m still thinking of which event and which song reminds me of it. Hmmh… Let me think…

LIGHTBULB!

I know.. Okay, so this is not a party or a national holiday or something, but it’s just an event in my life that remains undeleted in my heart and mind.

It was the day my father was leaving for Riyadh. Early at dawn, my dad turned up the volume of our radio when he was playing this song. He was getting so emotional about leaving our house, our family, and our country for the first time. He knew that he would miss everybody since it was a totally different land. So he sang every single word of the song so full of love and longing. He was crying while singing. (Yeah, I know it was a bit OA, but you know, it was his first time and he didn’t super duper want to leave.)

Every time this song is played on the radio, I remember that day. I can imagine him standing at the door shirtless, wearing his  favorite white shorts, one hand on the waist, the other on the door frame — crying and singing…

30-Day Song Challenge: DAY 6 (for Sunday)

(I don’t go online on weekends so I won’t be able to post Days 5 and 6. So I’ll be doing this in advance.)

Alright. This is for Day 6, Sunday, August 28th. This one’s about a song that reminds me of a place. Hmmh… I couldn’t think of any so I had to search for a song in Musika’s playlist. And this was what I found:

Day 6: A Song That Reminds You of Somewhere — Stop and Stare (One Republic)

Whenever I hear this song, I remember the place where Starlight and I first hang out together and got to know each other more.  It’s somewhere in Las Piñas City. But yeah, it’s special because he played that song with his phone’s music player and sang it. I sang along with him but I didn’t know the lyrics that well. :)

“Stop and stare
I think I’m moving but I go nowhere
Yeah I know that everyone gets scared
But I’ve become what I can’t be, oh
Stop and stare
You start to wonder why you’re here not there
And you’d give anything to get what’s fair
But fair ain’t what you really need
Oh, can you see what I see”
